Alex Hormozi Quotes to Show You How to Retire in the Next 5 Years

by | Nov 16, 2022 | Financial Freedom, Money

The lazy bastard wouldn’t do the work.

Since 2011 I’ve tried to get him back into action. Events, books, podcasts, mentors, chats with friends … nothing works.

He has great ideas and loads of strategy but then does anything. Recently I introduced him to Alex Hormozi’s work. “Start by reading his tweets. Message me back when you have.”

3 hours later….

“I just read 300 of his tweets. This guy is incredible.”

After nearly a decade of sitting on his butt and doing nothing, his dream business finally launched. This is one reason Alex Hormozi is a god.

I kid you not, I know guys and gals in their early 20s making 7-figures from his work.

Secret: After I discovered his work his strategies tripled the revenue of my online business. I haven’t shared that before.

This guy is a must-follow.

Let me save you 100+ hours and share his best quotes of all time (curated by me).

“A focused fool can accomplish more than a distracted genius”

Yesterday I had a coaching session with a client. We looked through all her social media accounts. She had 30 in total.

“What am I doing wrong?”

Answer: no focus.

You can’t earn enough money to retire in the next 5 years if you’re attention is scattered all over the internet. You need to pick one path to start with.

Focus creates depth. Depth leads to mastery. Mastery makes you rich.

“How to stay poor: Start tomorrow.”

We all have financial fetishes.

Retiring in the next 5 years, especially if you’re in your 20s or 30s, sounds delicious. Many will never achieve. Not because of a lack of intelligence, but because they dream about starting in the future.

Alex Hormozi says:

You can get “good enough” at almost anything in 20 hours of focused effort. The problem is, most people spend years delaying the first hour.

The trick is to stop delaying the first step. Most modern paths to wealth begin on the internet. You’re not stupid and know that. The problem is you delay taking action.

No decent amount of wealth will enter your life unless your brain is programmed with a “today” mindset.

And you have time too. We make time for priorities, so make it a priority.

“The most addictive drug is making money doing something you love.”

This is one of the best quotes I have ever come across.

I’m living proof it’s true. Once I started to make money online I couldn’t stop. I love what I do and it’s awesome to lead others to do the same.

There’s no better feeling in the world.

As the money begins to pile up, the option to use money to do good becomes available.

They say money is evil … that’s not true when you’ve had the opportunity to be charitable.

“Most already know what to do and simply don’t do it. It’s not ignorance. It’s fear.”

Most of what I write about money is obvious.

It’s still useful because it acts as a reminder. But it’s not unique. 99% of you reading this know what to do to retire in the next 5 years.

The challenge is you’re fearful.

To take action and venture into the unknown is scary. When you do, though, that’s when your entire life changes.

“When I was poor I saved so that I could invest in me, not the S&P 500. I can 10x my income with better skills. The S&P 500 cannot.”

Stop reading index fund porn.

Investing in the stock market is great but it takes a long time to get wealthy and retire.

If you want to make it happen in the next 5 years you need to invest money into in-demand skills — entrepreneurship, copywriting, sales, software engineering, data/analytics, etc. Few people understand.

Alex often says new skills are the greatest way to beat inflation.

Cold calling and high volume selling are valuable because of the skills you learn, not the $. It’s hard to take 20+ consults a day and not get good. And once you’re good, it’s like getting a permanent $200k/yr pay raise. It’s worth giving a year to gain the skill for life — Alex Hormozi

“The easiest way to change your behavior is to change your surroundings.”

If you hang around losers you become one.

Harsh but true. Many parts of society live as victims. They want people to feel sorry for them. They want freebies. They want some shiny object because they think they deserve it.

This leads people to go “ahhhh he makes too much money.” What the person is really saying is “they make more than me.” It’s why there is so much hatred of billionaires.

The shift Alex insists on is instead of being envious of others, start to think “Wow, this person makes more money than me. I wonder what I can learn from them.”

When you get away from the crowd of envious people and victims, suddenly, the game of life gets 10x easier.

Who you spend time with is who you ______

Make people decide

Money enters your life as the result of outcomes.

Those outcomes stem from opportunities where, likely, you’ll have to ask someone for something and get an answer.

You get money from yeses.
You get time from nos.
You get nothing from maybes — Alex Hormozi

Your job in life to make decent cash and retire early is to get people to make a decision. No is fine. Yes is ideal. “Maybe” means you stuffed up.

Learn these three core business skills

Perhaps you use them for an online business or at work.

Make shit
Sell shit
Lead others

“We pay for every lesson with either time or money. And we use the currency we value least.”

Most people think TikTok is free.

They enjoy the heck out of the tiny dopamine-spiking videos like pigs in poop. They have no idea they’re paying for those useless videos with their time. Time is always more important than money.

The point of retiring in the next 5 years is to buy your time back, not to buy a Lambo and hang out with Timbo.

“For anyone starting a business, focus on getting $1 from a stranger into your bank account.”

Get off $0.

$1 from the internet won’t make you a billionaire. But it will mess with your psychology. Think of the one dollar as a nail scratching new grooves across the vinyl record that is your brain.

You’ll never think the same again. Possibilities will open up. Your imagination will come alive.

The text message from Alex’s friend to blow your mind

I look at this screenshot frequently:

There’s a lot of jargon. Essentially the crux of the text is to use money you make to buy assets, then borrow money against those assets for stuff you want to buy. It creates tax efficiency, and is a huge psychological shift.

If done right, it can compound money much faster than normal.

“Strategy is easy. Execution is hard.”

The average person talks a great game but takes little action. They spend way too much time studying and planning.

Do the opposite and you’ll get financial results much faster.

“Volume x Time = Skill”

That’s Alex’s formula for financial success. Without skills you have nothing other than desire. The reason many of us fail to learn the right skills is we’re too impatient.

If you can wait 90 days for a result, you can win.
If you can wait a year, you can win big.
If you can wait a decade, you can be the best.
If you can wait a lifetime, you can change the world — Alex Hormozi

“During my hardest days, I repeated the same phrase to myself: I cannot lose if I do not quit.”

Hard goals lead normal people to retire in the next 5 years.

You only lose if you quit. Go beyond your comfort zone and stick to hard goals longer than seems normal. That’s where financial growth is found.
